About Her . . .

Aquilla Mokaya is a Partner at BEAM LAW LLP and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a solid background in family law, employment law, commercial law, financial regulation, tax advisory, and corporate transactions. She is recognized for her strategic, client-focused approach to legal practice, providing reliable and innovative solutions to complex legal and regulatory matters.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree, a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, and a Diploma in Tax Administration from the Kenya School of Revenue Administration (KESRA). Aquilla is currently advancing her expertise by pursuing a Master of Laws (LL.M) in International Finance Law and Regulation at Strathmore University.

Her professional journey includes roles at IC Law LLP as an Associate, where she was actively involved in handling a broad spectrum of commercial and regulatory matters. Her role encompassed legal advice on corporate governance, contract drafting and negotiation, regulatory compliance, and due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. Aquilla worked closely with both local and international clients, providing strategic legal support that facilitated business operations while mitigating legal and regulatory risks. Her experience at IC Law LLP laid a strong foundation for her current focus on commercial and financial law.

She also worked at Orion Infrastructure Africa, a specialized transaction advisory firm focused on infrastructure projects across the African continent. During her time there, Aquilla was involved in advising on Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), risk management, legal and regulatory affairs, and ESG compliance. Her work included supporting project structuring, procurement, financial close, and legal due diligence, gaining valuable exposure to large-scale infrastructure investments and complex cross-border transactions. This experience deepened her understanding of development finance, regulatory frameworks, and the intersection between commercial viability and public interest.

Outside her legal practice, Aquilla is passionate about social impact. She is the Executive Director of We Care Youth Organisation, a grassroots initiative focused on youth empowerment, civic education, and access to justice. At BEAM LAW LLP, Aquilla plays a key leadership role, combining legal insight with a deep understanding of Kenya’s evolving business and regulatory environment.
